The great generation. As I fumble through my notes I come across an old picture of my grandfather’s enlistment forms and army hat. I am also reminded that today is my grandmother’s 93rd birthday, she passed about 3 months ago. Having lived with them pretty much my whole life I was gifted a chance to see and understand a generation of people who built this country, the last great generation.
Craft. My grandmother was a gifted artisan, who hand made everything. She took much care in everything she made, down to the tiniest detail. Even the way she packed her garbage, everything was meditated, it drove me crazy. I think about it from time to time, about how a lot of this is lost in our current generation’s culture. She was patient, like crazy patient, waiting till everything she made was as perfect and controlled as she could make them.
Our current cultures focus so often is about the immediate gratification of life. This patience and care is seemingly gone. I think about the internet and how its changed people, how this immediacy has tarnished our cultures great past. Obviously the internet is great and blah blah blah it has donated to society…my point is that with the exception of a few outliers nothing is made here, and I am not saying that its the internets
